Richard’s work is greatly influenced by the natural world. This is apparent in the shapes, textures and forms found in his work. His sculptures are mostly made in stone and bronze. Richard is a committee member of Sculpture in Context and also teaches stone carving workshops at his D15 Studios. Another side to Richard’s practice is letter carving and memorials. Richard creates bespoke and unique memorials and headstones. When approached to do a headstone or memorial, the client’s wishes and ideas are discussed and a number of factors are considered, such as material, the letter design, the shape and the sentiment. Full care and consideration is given to every commission undertaken. Richard is a member of the Lettercarvers Guild of Ireland and all his lettering is hand-drawn and hand-carved.
